Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: The Arabic Language Center Abu Dhabi (ALC), part of the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, has launched the “We speak Arabic” program to help non-Arabic speakers around the world learn the language more easily and effectively through innovative digital content.
The program targets learners of all ages and nationalities and encourages proficiency in Arabic as a language of knowledge, culture and creativity.
Saeed H. Al Tunaiji, Acting Executive Director of the Arabic Language Center Abu Dhabi, said: “Promoting the adoption of the Arabic language locally and internationally is one of the main objectives of the Center through a wide range of projects and initiatives. Executing our mandate through digital means is a major goal that provides easy access to those who seek to learn, and of course, cooperation and collaborative efforts among entities, institutions and communities are essential to achieve Our goals.
“We speak Arabic” is one of many ALC programs aimed at promoting and developing the Arabic language. The Center recently organized the “Arabic Language Pals” competition for Arab and foreign students, which saw 156 videos submitted by seven Arab countries: United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, Sudan and Syria. The videos were evaluated by a jury of Arabic language and poetry experts according to strict criteria, including quality of performance, linguistic accuracy, choice of content and emotional expression.
After several rounds of judging, the jury produced a final list of six videos nominated to win the “Arabic Language Pals” award. The three winners of the competition were: Raneem Al Obaidi from Jordan, Ahmad Al Raheen from Saudi Arabia and Reem Hajj Hussain from Syria.
