Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center (ALC), part of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi), will highlight its important role in improving cultural understanding and promotion of the Arabic language in Riyadh. International Book Fair, taking place in Saudi Arabia this month.
Participation in the fair, which takes place October 1-10 at the Riyadh Front exhibition center, underscores ALC’s goal of supporting the regional publishing industry and fostering the development of Arabic. The ALC has set up a dedicated pavilion where it will promote its internal projects, present its own publications and organize book signing ceremonies.
During the event, HE Dr bin Tamim, who is also Secretary General of the Sheikh Zayed Book Prize, will participate in the Arab Prizes Forum, hosted by the General Secretariat of the King Faisal Prize. A platform for Arab culture, the Forum is made up of representatives of award organizations from the Arab world and offers opportunities for the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
“The Riyadh International Book Fair stands out as a prestigious event in the Arab world, especially since it attracts such a large number of participants,” said Mouza Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of LAC. “This year, our efforts are dedicated to introducing the ever-growing number of Saudi and Arab readers who are interested in the Centre’s vast collection of published books. We really hope to see the book fairs resume after the challenges inflicted by the pandemic, which in turn will accelerate the pace of development of the publishing industry. “
An official LAC delegation will meet with cultural leaders from Saudi Arabia, as well as national and regional publishers to identify opportunities for growth in the publishing industry. The delegation will also attend the Arab Publishers Conference on October 4-5.
In its pavilion, ALC will present a series of audiobooks and print books, comprising around 100 notable books and anthologies. Readers can also browse books on their smartphones by scanning the QR code through the “Atheer Al Kutub” and “Wajeez Al Kutub” Audiobook initiatives. Among the events at the ALC pavilion will be a signing ceremony for the launch of Naseer Shamma’s first book “Al Uslubia Al Mousiqiyah (Styles of Music)” on October 7th.
