Emirates News Agency – Arabic Language Center Abu Dhabi announces Sheikh Zayed Book Prize Scientific Committee for 17th edition of the Prize

ABU DHABI, 2nd July, 2022 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center (ALC), part of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, has announced the Scientific Committee of the Sheikh Zayed Book Prize for the 17th edition.

Chaired by Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Secretary General of the Prize and President of ALC, the committee includes Saeed Hamdan Al Tunaiji, Acting Executive Director of ALC; Dr. Khalil Al Sheikh, critic, translator and professor of Arabic language and literature at Yarmouk University in Jordan; Juergen Boos, President and CEO of the Frankfurt Book Fair; French professor and researcher Floréal Sanagustin; Lebanese scholar and researcher Dr. Nadia El Cheikh; Egyptian literary critic and professor Dr. Amany Fouad Gadallah; Saudi writer and novelist Dr. Badria Al Bishr; and the Jordanian-German translator, Dr. Mustafa Al Slaiman.

Each year, the Scientific Committee appoints a group of distinguished regional and international literary personalities as judges, who sit on nine separate judging panels.

The committee then reviews and approves the judges’ selections before submitting them to the board for official approval and to select the winners of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award.

Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Secretary General of the Prize and President of the ALC, welcomed the new members and applauded the distinguished roles played by the previous members, which contributed to strengthening the Arab cultural movement and paved the way for new many notable achievements.

“The appointment of such renowned and celebrated personalities who have made a remarkable impact on the cultural scene to join the scientific committee of the SZBA reflects our commitment to promote the prize and to advance its status. We look forward to the valuable knowledge and experiences scientists that the new members will bring and we are convinced that they will continue on the same path as their predecessors, who have made important contributions to enrich and develop the Prize, which enjoys a commendable presence in the Arab region and in the world said Dr bin Tamim.

Saeed Hamdan Al Tunaiji said, “Over the past 16 years, the Sheikh Zayed Book Award has provided a rich and meaningful experience that has helped elevate the book industry, supported scholars and creative thinkers, and created an environment unique and inspiring for research and innovation. .”

Meanwhile, Dr Amany Fouad Gadallah, professor of literary criticism at the Higher Institute of Art Criticism of the Academy of Arts in Cairo, said: “I am happy to have been chosen among the members of the scientific committee of the 17th Sheikh Zayed Book Prize. , and I am convinced that the Committee will do everything in its power to develop intellectual, literary and cultural production.”

Along the same lines, researcher Dr Nadia El Cheikh, Vice Rector for Cultural and Research Engagement at NYU Abu Dhabi, said, “I am pleased to join the Sheikh Zayed Book Award Scientific Committee in its 17th edition. has made remarkable contributions in the service of Arab culture, in addition to supporting intellectuals and creators.”

In addition, Saudi novelist Dr. Badria Bishr said: “I am honored and delighted to be a member of the scientific committee of such a respected international literary prize as the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, which strives to advance human intellect and to celebrate creativity, excellence, and innovation. Joining the Committee is both an honor and a great responsibility.”
